MGM Grand Completes $300 Million Room And Suite Renovation
Back in February of this year, the MGM Resorts group announced a $300 million dollar project to renovate the 4,212 rooms at the MGM Grand. In that announcement, they estimated that renovations would be done by December 2025.
Fast forward to mid-November and the project has been completed ahead of schedule. The MGM Grand now features 3,969 rooms and suites, bringing the room standards up to modern day spec with a nice blend of dark contemporary designs. As promised, they have added an additional 111 suites, bringing the total number of suites in the main tower to 753 units.

Even though it was not explicitly stated, the overall unit reduction count is most likely attributed to the increase in the number of larger suites. The MGM Grand’s rooms were inspired by the “glamour and energy of the disco era”, and feature a mix of both earthy colors, chrome, gold and mirror finishes. The dark carpets and accents also give a very evening/night time vibe. Besides the usual amenities, there have been some minor changes including USB and USB-C charging outlets (along with standard AC wall outlets), and upgraded media centers.

“MGM Grand has long stood out as one of the most iconic resorts on The Strip, and this remodel marks an ambitious step forward in the resort’s evolution,” said Mike Neubecker, President and COO of MGM Grand.
“Inspired by our guests’ feedback, we’ve designed rooms that deliver what both business and leisure travelers value most, providing a thoughtful balance of style, comfort and functionality.”
Like many Las Vegas hotels, the MGM Grand has a multitude of room types to choose from, ranging from regular rooms, larger suites, along with the “Skylofts”, offering one, two and three-bedroom suites with ground to ceiling glass panel views of the city. The Skylofts each include a den, living room, social area and media room.

There are also “Stay Well” rooms which are regular rooms, but with amenities such as air purifiers, aromatherapy oil atomizers, and other wellness focused features.

It’s been a long time since I’ve last visited Las Vegas, and while I am excited to check out these changes at some point, I really haven’t been too keen on returning due to how expensive Las Vegas on a whole has become over the years. The hotel rooms may be cheap this time of year, but other aspects of Las Vegas have gotten so expensive.
On top of that, hotels (on the strip at least) charge you for every single thing. Resort fees are still through the roof, free parking is done away with, food and drink prices are astronomically high, so I feel like a trip to Vegas requires a life savings worth of an investment just to enjoy a few basic shows, and some food and drinks.
This sentiment is clearly being reflected in their travel numbers, as they are seeing a consistent decline of about roughly 11% in inbound travel number over the last three quarters. Hopefully this downward pressure results in the respective stakeholders reducing their prices to match. Or have we reached the point where Las Vegas only cares about the elite and super-rich?
