Community Guidelines

Welcome to the Gate Checked community! We’ve brought back comments so users can have a voice to:

  • Build upon posted story lines
  • Provide constructive feedback
  • Have a space to provide an alternate perspective
  • Send questions and/or corrections to stories.

Guidelines

These guidelines are designed to create a safe, inclusive, and engaging space for everyone. By participating in our community, you agree to follow these rules.

  • Be Respectful – Treat everyone with kindness and respect, regardless of their background, beliefs, or opinions. Harassment, hate speech, and bullying will not be tolerated.
  • Foster Inclusivity – Celebrate diversity and strive to create an environment where everyone feels welcome. Avoid discrimination based on race, gender, religion, nationality, sexual orientation, disability, or any other characteristic.
  • Stay on Topic – Contribute to discussions with relevant and meaningful content. Avoid spamming, off-topic comments, or disruptive behavior that detracts from the community experience.
  • Protect Privacy – Respect the privacy of others. Do not share personal information about yourself or others, such as addresses, phone numbers, or private conversations, without explicit consent.
  • Avoid Harmful Content – Do not post or share content that promotes violence, illegal activities, self-harm, or any form of harm to others. This includes graphic, explicit, or offensive material.
  • Follow the Law – Ensure your contributions comply with all applicable laws and regulations. Do not engage in or encourage illegal activities.
  • Report Misconduct – If you witness behavior that violates these guidelines, report it to the community moderators or administrators. Do not engage directly with violators.
  • Respect Moderation – Community moderators and administrators have the final say on enforcing these guidelines. Respect their decisions and follow their instructions.

Moderation

The moderation team may remove comments if they feel they are in violation of the above guidelines. They may also warn, suspend or ban accounts depending on the severity of the violation. An e-mail will be sent to your account if you are penalized.

Account Management

Registration

Anyone can sign up for an account via the comments section. To register, you simply need to provide an e-mail address, username and password.

If you are signing up via Google or Facebook, you will still need to provide a custom username and password. This is so that should you lose access to your Google or Facebook account, you can still login on Gate Checked and update your credentials as necessary.

Note that entered usernames are FINAL and cannot be changed by anyone (including the moderation team) once registration is complete.

Management

Once logged in, you can management your profile under the “My Profile” tab. From here you can change your commenting preferences, as well as request a copy of your data, and change your email address and password, and completely delete your account if desired.

For those who registered via Google or Facebook, you now have the option of either logging in using your entered username and password, or by selecting the Google or Facebook login option. Note that it is not possible to register twice using different login methods (with the same email) as your commenting account is tied to your email address.

Account Deletion

It is possible to delete your account. Doing this removes ALL comments, and your account from our website’s front end and database. If you choose to do this, there is no way of recovering your data.

The deletion process takes 24 hours. As a safety measure, you can cancel your deletion request within that time if you change your mind.

If you are sure that you want to delete your account, scroll down to the comments section of any post and log in. From there go to My Profile > Account > Delete my account and follow the instructions.

Facebook and Google authenticated users should also follow this step as unlinking your accounts will not delete your Gate Checked commenting account. As mentioned before, this is separated as a safety measure in case you lose access to your Google or Facebook account.
