JetBlue Previews “BlueFirst” Domestic First-Class Seating

More than two years later after the first rumors hit the internet, JetBlue is finally giving us a proper preview of its new BlueFirst domestic first-class seats product.

The BlueFirst name isn’t a surprise at this point as it was teased in late July. The earlier announcement introduced the carrier’s upcoming adjusted booking engine, which will allow customers to better understand the cabin type and fare class in a simpler two-step option. With that said, we are finally getting to see what their BlueFirst product looks like.

We think it’s time for a fresh take,” said Joanna Geraghty, chief executive officer, JetBlue. “Customers are increasingly looking for more premium experiences, and BlueFirst gives them an elevated experience that feels distinctly JetBlue, with thoughtful touches, caring service and great value. It’s another way we’re bringing our JetForward strategy to life and giving customers more reasons to choose JetBlue.”

Bookable in fall 2026, the new domestic first-class product utilizes Collins AeroSpace MiQ recliner seats, which an industry favorite for narrowbody business class (domestic first class), and premium economy widebody installations. The BlueFirst product is expected to be outfitted on all non-Mint JetBlue aircraft.  

Laid out in a 2-2 configuration, these recliner seats will offer up to seven inches of extra legroom over main cabin seats, with five inches of recline. JetBlue continues its partnership with Tuft & Needle, adding T&N Flex foam padding to the fabric and leather combo seating.

The seats themselves are mostly gray fabric, with black headrests and dark blue trim on the sides. There are also two arcs stitched in light blue on the headrests denoting the BlueFirst branding. The seatbacks feature 13.3-inch entertainment screens with Bluetooth connectivity, as well as USB-A, USB-C and AC 110v power outlets, along with free Wi-Fi access.

On flights 899 miles or more, customers will be entitled to what they call a “FirstFare” meal served in a bento-style box, containing an entrée, side and dessert. Meal options will also vary depending on the time of day they are being served. The above mileage translates to flight times around two and a half to three hours long depending on the direction of flight.

Travelers will also be able to choose from a selection of alcoholic drinks, and can even build their own custom cocktails via the seatback IFE screens. The beverage menu will include sommelier-selected wines, specialty coffee and premium teas. Both meal and drink orders can be placed in advance via the IFE. Besides that, all BlueFirst customers will have access to a premium line up to snacks. All overnight travelers will be given a blanket and snooze kit.

Officially, BlueFirst customers will be entitled to Group 1 boarding, dedicated overhead-bin space, priority check-in, expedited security access at more than 30 airports, two complimentary checked bags, priority baggage delivery, and no change or cancellation fees on BlueFirst and BlueFirst Flex fares.

As mentioned before, bookings will be available later this fall, so it’s not clear yet where, and how many aircraft will be deployed with the new seating this year. It will also be interesting to see what the official specs look like once more information is provided, including how the new cabin will affect those in economy.  

According to the rumor mill, JetBlue will most likely outfit around 20% of its non-Mint fleet by the end of the year, and covering the vast majority of its aircraft by the end of 2027. It is also rumored that JetBlue wants to keep a similar seat count, and will most likely sacrifice seat pitch in economy to make way for these new seats. However, these details have yet to be confirmed, and we will wait for further official information.
