Following a number of route reductions in the past two years, Caribbean Airlines is once again expanding its portfolio with the addition of two new routes, as well as resumption of one.

New Tobago-Toronto Route

From October 25, 2026, Caribbean Airlines will introduce weekly non-stop service between Tobago (TAB) and Toronto (YYZ), operating on Sundays. This lines up with the upcoming opening of the new airport terminal and the ANR Robinson International Airport. The new route will be serviced with a Boeing 737 MAX 8.

Just like their New York run, the aircraft will originate and end in Trinidad, operating the short segment to/from Tobago as a domestic flight.

It’s not clear yet when the new airport will be commissioned, but Chief Secretary of Tobago Farley Augustine last said publicly that a date will be announced in the coming days. They are aiming to open the new terminal in time for the start of Tobago’s carnival which beginning on October 30, 2026. I suspect they may try to expedite the opening in time for the launch of the new Toronto route.

Tobago has long struggled with sustaining reliable air lift given its a relatively underdeveloped international tourism product. Besides daily flights between the island and Trinidad (POS), there are just a handful of routes to international destinations including Barbados, St. Lucia, Frankfurt and New York.

It’s good to see Toronto being added to the mix, but even with a new route and new terminal, Tobago still needs a stronger marketing product and updated tourism infrastructure (e.g. modern hotel/resort accommodations, more formalized and accessible transportation options, regularized tour pricing, etc.) before it can truly attract the attention of more international carriers.

New Trinidad-Panama Route

Caribbean Airlines plans to operate a series of charter flights between Trinidad (POS) and Panama (PTY) on selected Tuesdays and Fridays. These flights will provide additional travel options during the Christmas and Carnival period, and will also be operated with a Boeing 737 MAX 8.

These flights will run from December 1, 2026, through February 9, 2027, and can be booked directly with the airline or through participating travel agencies. It seems they are working with travel partners who are offering vacation packages, rather than simply offering a flight and going head-to-head with Copa Airlines.

Resumption of Trinidad-Caracas Route

Caribbean Airlines offered regularly scheduled flights between Trinidad and Caracas (CCS) in Venezuela, but paused the route for more than two years as a result of the pandemic. After stopping service in March 2020, they resumed flights in May 2023, but paused service yet again in September 2025 following rising US-Venezuela tensions and military activity.

With ex-President Nicolás Maduro now out of the picture, a number of U.S. airlines are already jumping on the bandwagon to resume flights, including American Airlines which flies to both Caracas and Maracaibo.

Starting October 31, 2026, Caribbean Airlines will once again resume flights to Caracas, operating once weekly on Saturdays using an ATR 72-600 between the two destinations.

It’s good to see Caribbean exploring new avenues again, and while I see the Caracas and Panama routes working for them, it will be interesting to see how well the Tobago/Toronto leg does over time.

Here’s what those flights look like mapped out.
