By now, Thomas Cook Group’s closure has made headlines globally as the 178-year-old company folded very early Monday morning. Besides the more than 600,000 travelers affected by the situation, some 20,000 employees are also now on the breadline.

Even though many of those travelers may eventually be able to claim some sort of compensation for their cancelled trips, there are no immediate answers for the ground and flight staff members, as most will now have to find new jobs on their own.

One passenger was able to capture the emotional send off on a returning flight from Cancun, Mexico (CUN) to Manchester (MAN). Even as the crew member struggled to maintain his composure, he kept it very professional, thanking both the passengers and other Thomas Cook employees for their service. At one point, the passengers on board cheered him on as he struggled to get through part of his announcement.

The video is 10 minutes long, but you only really need to listen to the first 1 minute and 45 seconds.

Here are a few photos from Twitter and Instagram from various crew and ground staff as well, all of them expressing their sadness over having to leave the airline they loved working for, as well as friends they’ve made along the way.

We won’t cry because it’s over, we’ll smile because it’s happened. β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€” Here is my incredible team going to work, putting our uniforms on, without a job, fighting back our tears and trying to smile, to assist our lovely guests to get back home, and go out with a bang. Which is one of the most heartbreaking and challenging things that I have done my whole career. But that ladies and gentlemen is the reason, why I am so proud to work for Thomas Cook. Thank you for the four years, all the memories, and all the friends I’ve worked alongside. You are my family. Our little yellow heart may be broken, but our family most certainly is not. β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€” We have served our customers well for 178 years, putting our customers at our hearts and we will continue to do so until somebody physically restrains us, puts us on a plane and tells us to stop. @thomascookuk πŸ’›πŸ’› β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€” #thomascook #workabroad #overseas #replife #rep #skiathos #lastpost #allover #smiling #sunnyheart #tc #friends #family #together #tctillidie #greece
