By now, Thomas Cook Group’s closure has made headlines globally as the 178-year-old company folded very early Monday morning. Besides the more than 600,000 travelers affected by the situation, some 20,000 employees are also now on the breadline.
Even though many of those travelers may eventually be able to claim some sort of compensation for their cancelled trips, there are no immediate answers for the ground and flight staff members, as most will now have to find new jobs on their own.
One passenger was able to capture the emotional send off on a returning flight from Cancun, Mexico (CUN) to Manchester (MAN). Even as the crew member struggled to maintain his composure, he kept it very professional, thanking both the passengers and other Thomas Cook employees for their service. At one point, the passengers on board cheered him on as he struggled to get through part of his announcement.
The video is 10 minutes long, but you only really need to listen to the first 1 minute and 45 seconds.
Here are a few photos from Twitter and Instagram from various crew and ground staff as well, all of them expressing their sadness over having to leave the airline they loved working for, as well as friends they’ve made along the way.
