Just over six months ago, we covered a story about an English tourist who was fined $4,000 for overstaying her time in Indonesia by 160 days.
42-year-old Auj-e Taqaddas was supposed to fly to Singapore from Ngurah Rai International Airport in Bali, Indonesia on July 28, 2018, but was stopped by airport officials after they discovered that she had overstayed her time in the country. Upon hearing that she would have to pay a $4,000 fine to leave the country, she started throwing insults at the immigration officials, going so far as to slap one of them in the face while trying to grab her passport.
She was arrested at the point in time and finally tried after missing several of her previous court dates. Taqaddas has since been jailed and faces six months prison time after being found guilty of violence against an officer. In response to the ruling, she says it was “unfair”, and even accused prosecutors of abusing her and forcing her to stay in the country. Taqaddas has since appealed the ruling.
