Trinidad and Tobago’s Trade, Investment and Tourism minister has announced the upcoming addition of flights between Ghana and Trinidad starting in early 2026.
In a statement made on Thursday’s Post Cabinet Media Briefing, Minister Satyakama Maharaj said that Trinidad and Tobago’s government has been in talks with the government of Ghana and Ethiopian Airlines to arrange a scheduled charter service between Ghana and Trinidad.
In the briefing, he also made mention of the growing presence of one of Trinidad’s local banks across Ghana, noting that it takes officials as long as two days to fly between the two countries based on current flight offerings.

“Initially, we are looking at an Ethiopian airline charter plane in consultation with the people from Ghana. Going to Ghana now takes two days. Republic Bank has around 40 branches in Ghana, and they always are very concerned when they have to go and visit, because that two-day trip is very expensive. And it is also time-consuming and they are very pleased. Everyone is pleased that we are exploring the opening up of the African market.”
Minister Maharaj also indicated that should these charters prove successful, they will look into converting these flights into a once-weekly scheduled service. This is definitely very interesting times as there typically has not been connectivity directly between Africa and the Caribbean. The few flights that operate between the two regions tend to do so on a very limited charter basis.
This isn’t the only upcoming African service as Air Peace is also planning to operate monthly charters between West Africa and various Caribbean islands on a monthly trial basis.
