The Papagayo luxury hospitality market is heating with the announcement of another five-star hotel joining the scene.
Marriott International has signed an agreement with Solana PA, S.R.L. to bring the St. Regis Hotels & Resorts brand to the Gulf of Papagayo in Costa Rica’s Guanacaste Province. Construction of the 20-hectare (~49 1/2-acre) property is expected to begin some time in July 2025, with a projected completion time in early 2027.
The resort will feature 120 hotel rooms and 143 residential units, with its design taking inspiration from the “local culture and its ocean surroundings”. There will be six culinary options including Casa Club (casual gourmet dining), The Cliff (inspired by Japanese and Costa Rican influences), a Beach Club and Grill, and the St. Regis Bar and Speakeasy, and more.
Besides food and drinks, there will be multiple pools, a spa, an exclusive beach club, a library, as well as indoor and outdoor spaces for meetings, banquets, and other gatherings.
St. Regis Papagayo will be located between Panama Bay and Culebra Bay, and runs along 634 yards of beach front, offering great views of the Gulf of Papagayo and Papagayo peninsular.
“This extraordinary development underscores our continued commitment to expanding our luxury portfolio in key destinations across the Caribbean and Central America,” said Uriel Burak, Marriott International Vice President, Development, Caribbean and Latin America (CALA). “Costa Rica continues to experience growing demand for high-end travel and residential offerings, and we are proud to work with Solana PA, S.R.L. to bring the first St. Regis hotel and residences to Costa Rica.”
Marriott has published a few renders showing a bird’s eye view of the resort, as well as a view of the ocean from one of its restaurants, as well as a lead up to what looks like one of the residences.

The resort will be a 25-minute drive from Liberia International Airport (LIR), and will compete against other luxury brands in the surrounding areas such as the Four Seasons Peninsula Papagayo, the Ritz-Carlton Reserve’s Nekajui, Hyatt’s Andaz Peninsula Papagayo, Secrets Papagayo, and the Autograph Collection’s El Mangroove.
