Sonesta To Refresh Ocean Point Resort Rooms Starting Q2 2026

Oh, how time flies! It felt like just yesterday that the Sonesta Ocean Point and Sonesta Maho reopened following basically what was a full rebuild. In 2017, Hurricane Irma ravaged many parts of the Caribbean, including St. Maarten, incurring roughly $3 billion in damage across the Caribbean island.

Both Sonesta-branded hotels suffered extensive damage, resulting in them being stripped down to the frame and rebuilt. In early 2019, both resorts re-opened via a soft-launch, with Sonesta Maho catering to all audiences, while Sonesta Ocean Point targeted adults only. Even though I managed to check out Sonesta Maho way back when I started this site, I haven’t been able to visit Ocean Point (will add that to the hotel review list).

It’s been seven years since, and Sonesta has announced that its suites and lobby area at its St. Maarten Ocean Point Resort will undergo renovation works starting in Q2 2026. For those familiar with Ocean Point, the rooms really are just an upgraded version of what is offered at the Maho, with the biggest selling point being adult-only (in my opinion at least).

The refreshed rooms will now have their own identity, featuring overall warmer tones with updated custom furnishing and fixtures, with natural wood and stone finishings throughout the suites. They will also include a mix of ocean-inspired artwork and ambient mood lighting.

The rooms will continue offering the usual open-concept layout with views of the ocean (and the approach path at the airport for the plane spotters). All the lobbies, front desk area and the Martins Lobby Bar will also undergo updates, featuring updated natural textures, coastal tones, and understated decorative accents.

Guests are expected to be able to book these updated rooms from September 2026. It’s always good to see hotels revisiting their product from time to time rather than letting rooms age over decades without rework.
