Oman Air has announced that it will be the 14th airline to join the oneworld alliance.
With help from sponsor airline Qatar Airways, Oman Air will be integrated into the frequent flyer travel alliance by 2024. Once integrated, the airline will offer the full range of oneworld benefits to customers traveling on its flights. Members of Oman Air’s Sindbad frequent flyer program will be able to earn and redeem miles on all oneworld member airlines, with top tier members receiving additional benefits including lounge access when traveling with other oneworld members.
oneworld Governing Board Chairman and Qatar Airways Group Executive His Excellency Akbar Al Baker said: “Today marks a new milestone in oneworld, as our friends at Oman Air become a member elect of our award-winning alliance. Passengers of Oman Air will be offered a seamless travel journey, connecting them to more than 900 destinations across 170 countries. As the Chairman of oneworld, we look forward to welcoming Oman Air into our alliance as they will bring great benefits, allowing passengers to discover not just a new member with an excellent reputation, but a beautiful country.”
Besides being the third middle eastern airline to join the alliance, Oman Air opens up additional destinations including Muscat (MCT), Salahah (SLL), Duqm (DQM) and Khasab (KHS), among others. Given Oman Air’s smaller route network (many routes which could be flown via alternate airlines in the alliance), one has to wonder how much value these few additional cities bring to the overall network. Nonetheless, there are still benefits as oneworld members have more cities to earn miles on, and it comes as a huge plus for the smaller airline as it opens up a ton of new codeshare routes for Oman Air customers.
