JetBlue Cuts Antigua And Daytona Beach In Shift Towards Ft. Lauderdale Expansion

JetBlue is making a radical shift, focusing efforts on Ft. Lauderdale, announcing non-stop flights to 14 additional cities out of its South Florida hub. It’s always good news in the press releases, but with this shift comes cuts at other hubs.

Let’s talk about the new cities first. JetBlue had added 14 new cities out of Ft. Lauderdale, seven of which are entirely new to the JetBlue network, while the other seven are presently part of its wider network, but will now see non-stop flights between FLL and the respective cities. They’ve already launched service to eight of these destinations, while the remaining six will be added later this year.

“Fort Lauderdale has always been part of JetBlue’s DNA and a cornerstone of our network. We are very excited about this next phase of growth and look forward to delivering great value to the people of South Florida,” said Joanna Geraghty, chief executive officer, JetBlue. “We’re building on our already strong foundation by adding more destinations, creating more connections and giving customers even more reasons to choose JetBlue. As Fort Lauderdale’s leading airline, we see an opportunity to continue growing together with this community.”

The eight cities are Baltimore (BWI), Charlotte (CLT), Cleveland (CLE), Nashville (BNA), Detroit (DTW), Houston (IAH), Chicago (ORD) and Ponce (PSE). The remaining six start as follows:

• Barranquilla (BAQ) – 1x daily – October 1, 2026
• Cali (CLO) – 1x daily – October 15, 2026
• Columbus (CMH) – 1x daily – November 2, 2026
• Indianapolis (IND) – 1x daily – November 2, 2026
• Caracas (CCS) – 1x daily – TBD
• San Diego (SAN) – 1x daily – November 19, 2026

I suspect the Caracas flight may not materialize any time soon given the recent earthquake which rocked the area, resulting in significant damage to the surrounding infrastructure.

It’s not all good news though as other routes are being scaled back or removed entirely to accommodate the shift to Ft. Lauderdale. Flights to Antigua (ANU) in the Caribbean, and Daytona Beach (DAB), Florida are being cut entirely from their network. Service to Daytona Beach end of September 9, 2026, while Antigua’s service will end on October 31, 2026.

Three other New York (JFK) routes are being chopped. Flights to Vero Beach (VRB) and Nashville (BNA) are being cut on September 9, while flights to Chicago (ORD) will end on October 25, 2026. Mind you, there will still be JetBlue service to these cities, but just from other hubs.

The Providence (PVD) – Ft. Myers (RSW) seasonal route is also being cut on September 9, 2026, while Boston (BOS) to Amsterdam (AMS) will switch to seasonal summer service only.

As the airline continues its path towards a return to profitability, these lower performing routes are being cut as a result. Even though JetBlue served Daytona Beach exclusively out of New York, maybe the profit margins were not worth it given that Daytona Beach mainly sees service by lower cost operators such as Breeze and Avelo.

Antigua does come as a bit of a surprise, and I thought maybe they would have either reduced frequency or shifted towards a seasonal model rather than an outright cut. Nonetheless, the route is also served by American Airlines out of JFK and United from neighboring Newark (EWR), and I’m sure they will be happy to cover that capacity.

JetBlue may also be playing it safe given that the United States has started making it extremely hard for Antiguans to get new visas because of the country’s Citizenship by Investment (CBI) program. It seems they want to pressure the Antiguan government to revisit how citizenship is awarded before rescinding imposed restrictions.
