Timing a hotel’s opening is not an easy task, at least for larger chains. Project managers have to make their best guesses on a completion date as the property owners almost always sell rooms months in advance. Unfortunately, last minute work sometimes gets in the way of things, and opening dates have to be pushed back as a result.

For those looking forward to the January 1, 2026 opening of the Hotel Indigo Bridgetown Barbados, this date has been pushed back yet again, slipping by just about two weeks to January 12th because of last minute finishing works.

Construction of IHG’s 132-room Hotel Indigo Bridgetown Barbados started in 2022, with an estimated completion period of Q4 2024. With the project extending well beyond what was originally expected, the new opening date shifted a number of times, eventually settling on November 2025.

With last minute construction still lagging, that date was pushed back by two months to January 1, 2026, with it now being pushed again to January 12, 2026. I’m sure some affected customers won’t be happy to receive emails about their reservations needing to be adjusted yet again as a result of the work.

These things happen from time to time, which is why I advise would-be guests to avoid rushing to book opening day stays. I even suggest giving properties a month or two to settle their operations as things can sometimes be chaotic during those first few weeks.

I always remember my stay at the Sonesta Maho being rather disorganized in May 2019 even after they re-opened in February of that same year.

Hotel Indigo Bridgetown Barbados is a boutique luxury IHG property, and will emphasize the local flair due to its proximity to the city center. Located on the southern shoreline in Hastings on the site of the now-demolished Caribbee Hotel, Hotel Indigo Bridgetown Barbados will offer 132 rooms with an on-site restaurant, rooftop bar, and fitness center, with access to Hortons Beach.

2025 has been a busy year for me personally, with my reporting and traveling taking a big hit. I’m finally back with a number of flights and hotel reviews planned for 2026, with Hotel Indigo Bridgetown Barbados already booked. I’m also compiling a hotel opening list for vacationers looking for somewhere new to stay in the upcoming year, so stay tuned for that in a later post.

I’ve booked the “1 King Bed Premium Ocean View Corner Room” and will check it out some time in mid-April. Most of the renders on the website seem to be rather generic, so I’m not fully sure what the final room will look like until they open, but I don’t think I could really go wrong with my choice (hopefully).

I want to review two other newer resorts, but I’m still finalizing which I’d like to. Maybe you can suggest one in the comments for the same time period.
