The new 12 hour non-stop service will be operated by a Boeing 777-300ER with a capacity of 354 passengers, configured with 8 seats in First Class, 42 in business and 304 in economy. The daily service starts from July 5, 2023 as follows (all times local):

  • EK244 – Leaves Montreal at 10:20 a.m. and arrives in Dubai at 6:30 a.m. the next day

“Emirates is excited to launch our second gateway into Canada as we expand our reach in the country with direct services from our hub in Dubai. As a major metropolitan centre and as Canada’s second largest city, we are pleased to add Montréal to our growing global network of over 130 destinations and strengthening our coverage in the Americas to reach 18 points served by our services from Dubai,” said Adnan Kazim, Emirates’ Chief Commercial Officer.

Travelers flying between the UAE and Canada are seeing increased capacity between the two regions thanks to an expanded air transport agreement allowed both countries to operate up to 21 flights to their reciprocating countries.

From the United Arab Emirates side of things, Emirates has taken on the lion’s share, as this new announcement counts for seven flights on top of the increase to seven times weekly between Dubai and Toronto (YYZ). With 14 of the 21 taken, that left seven more slots for remaining UAE operators.

Abu Dhabi-based Etihad Airways flies six times weekly between Abu Dhabi and Toronto, and will use the one remaining slot to bring that to daily service between the two cities from May 30, 2023. Currently the airline operates that route with with a mix of Boeing 777-300ERs and Boeing 787-9s.

Canada still has some slots to play with

From the Canadian side of things, Air Canada has used seven of the country’s 21 slots to offer daily service between Toronto and Dubai, and recently announced 4 times weekly flight between Vancouver and Dubai. This new 787-9 operated route will be coming online much later in the year, with a start date of October 28, 2023. With 11 slots now allocated, that leaves 10 more for Air Canada and other Canadian carriers to play with.
