In December 2024, Arajet was cleared to fly to three U.S. cities including Miami, San Juan and New York. It was initially speculated that they would operate flights to John F. Kennedy (JFK), but they have since cleared the air with its latest route announcement.
On Monday, the Dominican Republic carrier announced flights between Santo Domingo’s Las Américas International Airport (SDQ) and the Newark Liberty International Airport (EWR) in New Jersey.
Starting June 16, 2025, Arajet will operate four weekly flights between the two cities on Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays and Sundays. These flights will be operated with a Boeing 737 MAX 8.
The announcement was made at the Gregorio Luperón school in Washington Heights, a community with a large Dominican population; along with the New York congressman of Dominican origin, Adriano Espaillat, as well as the Dominican consuls, Jesús Vázquez and José Santana, from New York and New Jersey respectively.
“Arajet is committed to making air travel accessible and affordable for the Dominican community and American tourists alike, and New York is a key market to strengthen our U.S. presence,” said Victor Pacheco, CEO and founder of Arajet. “The Newark service will complement routes between the DR, Miami, and San Juan, Puerto Rico, to establish Arajet as a carrier of choice for U.S. travelers booking vacations and getaways as well as visiting friends and family. We look forward to welcoming travelers with the convenience, affordability, and exceptional service Arajet is known for.”

Even though the New York Metropolitan area is home to a large Dominican population, Arajet also offers connectivity up to 24 other destinations within its route network.
With their ultra-low-cost model, travelers can fly to many parts of the western hemisphere as they have a footprint spanning across North, Central, South America, as well as some parts of the Caribbean.
Tickets have already gone on sale, with one-way fares from Newark to Santo Domingo as as low as $127, and the reverse starting at $135.
Arajet was originally founded in 2014 under the name Dominican Wings. They operated charter flights from Santo Domingo to a limited number of destinations within the region until the end of 2017, using a single Airbus A320-200.
In 2018, they decided to switch to an ultra-low-cost carrier model, and rebranded as Arajet in 2021. With substantial financial backing, the carrier was able to enter service in September 2022, and has since acquired 10 Boeing 737 MAX 8 aircraft, with five more expected to be delivered in the near future.
They also expected to take on 20 higher seat count MAX 200s, with 15 more as options.
