Arajet Announces Flights To New York, Miami And Puerto Rico

On December 20, 2020, the United States and the Dominican Republic governments entered into a bilateral Open Skies agreement, paving the way for carriers from both nations to operate international flights between any points without restrictions on routes, pricing, or capacity.

As a result, Dominican Republic’s Arajet has finally been granted approval to operate flights to the United States. The carrier plans to enter the U.S. market in the second quarter of 2025 with flights to New York (JFK), Miami (MIA), and Puerto Rico (SJU), from its two hubs in Santo Domingo (SDQ) and Punta Cana (PUJ).

“This is an important milestone and we are excited to officially launch in the United States next year,” said Victor Pacheco, CEO and founder of Arajet.

“These routes will open more travel to the U.S., a very important market for the Dominican Republic, and our low-fare flights will provide new opportunities to grow tourism and business. We’re eager to welcome American travelers and its diaspora communities to the Dominican Republic and further establish the country as an exciting hub connecting to 16 countries in the Americas.”

Even though official route have not been announced yet, here’s what their connectivity may look like come Q2 2025. Ticket sales will begin once Arajet receives final approval from the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA).

Arajet already has good connectivity throughout Canada, Central and South America, and parts of the Caribbean. The addition of these U.S. routes should further their ability to give passengers alternative and cheaper options when traveling across the western hemisphere.

The carrier operates a fleet of 10 Boeing 737 MAX 8 aircraft, and are expected to take delivery of another 10 MAX 8 200s.
