United Airlines To Start Flights To Dominica

United Airlines is expected to launch non-stop service, connecting the Eastern Caribbean Island of Dominica (DOM) with Newark (EWR).

Starting on February 15, the carrier will operate a once-weekly Saturday flight to Dominica’s Douglas-Charles Airport with their Boeing 737-700. Service will run until the end of August, resuming on October 18, 2025.

United’s entry will make it Dominica’s 2nd connection to the United States, with American Airlines being the other, offering non-stop flights to Miami with their Embraer E175 jets.

While United’s 737 is not the largest aircraft Dominica has ever seen, it certainly tops the list of scheduled arrivals. The island mostly has regional connectivity thanks to other carriers such as Caribbean Airlines, LIAT20, Sunrise Airways, WINAIR, Silver Airways and InterCaribbean Airways.

“The new service by United Airlines is a major step forward toward the island realizing the aggressive goal that it has set for itself and is part of the strategy being pursued in concert with the development of the new international airport,” said Honorable Denise Charles-Pemberton, Dominica’s Minister of Tourism.

“This route will help alleviate the access constraints faced by the destination over the years.”

Thanks to expansion works, the runway has been extended to 6,352 feet, and was grooved to assist with aircraft braking and water dissipation. The terminal also underwent upgrades to better facilitate the expected increase in passenger traffic.

“United is proud to partner with the Discover Dominica Authority to add beautiful Dominica to our leading global route network,” stated Matt Stevens, Vice President of International Network at United Airlines. “This addition further positions United as the airline of choice for customers looking to travel to unique destinations around the globe.”

The Dominican government isn’t limiting operations to Douglas-Charles Airport as they have already started development of a much larger airport set to be called Dominica International Airport.

The new airport is being developed further north in Wesley, and is expected to be completed in 2026.

The government is also in early discussions with other carriers including Air Canada, Delta Air Lines and JetBlue, in hopes of attracting their service in the near future.

Unlike most Caribbean islands, Dominica is geared more towards nature lovers, with activities including hiking, relaxing in geothermal spas, visiting waterfalls, scuba diving and checking out other natural attractions.
