Following an almost two-year hiatus, Air Canada has confirmed that it will return to Trinidad (POS) starting May 2, 2025.
First announced in November 2024, Air Canada has slightly adjusted their schedule, and will fly three times weekly to Trinidad rather than four times as initially scheduled as follows:
Flight Number | Origin | Destination | Frequency |
---|---|---|---|
AC984 | Toronto (YYZ) | Port of Spain (POS) | Fridays, Sundays and Monday (Starts May 2, 2025) |
AC985 | Miami (MIA) | Toronto (YYZ) | Saturdays, Mondays and Tuesdays Starts (May 3, 2025) |
Passengers will leave Toronto-Pearson at 7:45 p.m. local time, arriving in Trinidad the next morning at 1:25 a.m. The return flight departs one hour later, leaving Trinidad at 2:25 a.m. local time, arriving in Toronto at 8:20 a.m. The route will be operated with a Boeing 737 MAX 8, configured to seat up to 169 passengers.
If the route remains in place, Air Canada will eventually transfer all of its MAXs to its lower-cost leisure arm, Air Canada Rouge. This is part of their bigger plan to simplify their fleet, which they expect to be completed by 2028.
In a statement to the media, Mr. Michael Ryan Callan, High Commissioner-designate for Canada to the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago said:
“It’s a celebration of the importance of Air Canada flights to Trinidad and Tobago. In the area of ‘turbulence’ and international competition, Canada and Trinidad and Tobago share such a relationship. The resumption of the flights for tourism is a game-changer. More travellers would be able to experience the culture and history of Trinidad and Tobago.”
Air Canada will go up against Caribbean Airlines which operates once-daily flights between the two cities, also operating the route with a Boeing 737 MAX 8.
