Panama’s Copa Airlines continues its loyalty to Boeing, placing a firm order for another 40 737 MAX aircraft, with options for a further 20 units.

“For Copa Airlines, the signing of this agreement represents an important step in further strengthening the operation and connectivity we provide from Panama,” said Heilbron, CEO of Copa Airlines. “Through the Hub of the Americas®, we have built a connecting hub that today allows us to respond to market demand with a safe, efficient, and reliable operation. The addition of new aircraft will be key to continuing to expand our operations and route network, while supporting the economic development of Panama and the region, generating new jobs and growth in the tourism sector.”

Operating out of Tocumen International Airport (PTY), dubbed the “Hub of the Americas”, Copa’s business model centers around offering cheaper fares at the expense of making a connection. However, they do boast a very central location, and transiting passengers are not required to clear immigration.

Those flying with checked bags do not have to worry about picking them up as they are seamlessly repositioned to the connecting aircraft behind the scenes. Passengers can connect to most parts of North, Central, South America, and the Caribbean via this one hub. According to their latest stats, they operate flights to 88 destinations across 32 countries.

With more than 100 aircraft already in the fleet, these additional orders will be split between the MAX 8 and 9 depending on Copa’s upcoming needs. Just recently, Copa was in the news after announcing their partnership with Starlink, with plans to offer free high-speed internet starting in October 2026.
