Travel April Fools’ Day 2024 Round Up

Another year, another round of April Fools’ jokes. It’s that time when corporate marketing departments can go wild, posting their cringe content for a few laughs.

Many companies seem to continue to embrace the trend, but I’ve noticed that more and more travel related organizations no longer opt to participate in the trend. Maybe with fake news being so rampant, and companies actually dealing with the fallout from some unbelievable but true occurrences, it’s not hard to see why they would want to skip on the April 1 shenanigans.

Nonetheless, here are a few I’ve managed to find. If you see any more airline, aviation or travel company-related pranks, please feel free to send them to email hidden; JavaScript is required so I can add them to the list.

Emirates announces Residences

Emirates announced their newest project via their Facebook page. The hotel is a 380-story hotel development called the “Residences”.

“Luxury living is about to reach new heights. Introducing Emirates Residences.

“Situated in the heart of Dubai, the 380 story mega-project will be adorned with premium interiors inspired by Emirates’ beloved in-flight experience. The tower will even have its own exclusive airport for residents.

“Construction on Dubai’s newest supertall tower is set to begin 31 February, 2025.”

WestJet launches “MemorEase” brain implant headset

Can’t afford to go on vacation, how about bringing the vacation to your brain?

“Today, the airline is thrilled to introduce MemorEase™, an innovative new headset that uses the latest in AI technology to implant vacation memories directly into guests’ brains – offering them all the benefits of a vacation, without ever having to leave the comfort of their couch.

“With WestJet’s state-of-the-art MemorEase™ headset, you can choose from an expansive collection of AI-generated vacation memories. Whether your dream getaway centres around neon lights or white sand beaches, MemorEase™ offers you the opportunity to take the vacation of your dreams. Literally.”

JetStar now selling access to your arm rest

“First in, best rest! No more fighting over the armrest. With Rest Assured you can reserve your armrest in advance for only $2.”

Frontier Airlines launching $1 flights to Bora Bora

“Ultra-low fare carrier Frontier Airlines will add wide-body aircraft to its fleet beginning in June. In addition to lie-flat seating, the new aircraft will feature a chef-curated inflight menu and free Wi-Fi for all passengers. To kick off its new long-haul service, Frontier is introducing twice-weekly flights from John F. Kennedy International Airport in New York (JFK) to Mote Mute Airport in Bora Bora, French Polynesia (BOB) beginning June 1, 2024.

“To celebrate the new service, America’s Greenest Airline is offering a one-day-only fare sale with flights to Bora Bora for $1. Flights must be booked by 11:59 p.m. Eastern Time on April 1, 2024, for travel through June 26, 2024.”

I admit Frontier could have been a little bit more innovative with this joke. Maybe a render of a wide body with the Frontier logo on it rather than a regular text release?

Tampa International Airport puts out alert for loose giant flamingo

“BREAKING NEWS: OUR GIANT FLAMINGO IS ON THE LOOSE

“Phoebe escaped her enclosure at 8:47 AM and has been spotted throughout the Tampa Bay area.”

Pikes Peak Regional Airshow announces SR-72 Darkstar flyover

The organizers of the Pikes Peak Regional Airshow will have a new surprise this year.

“Witness aviation history at the Pikes Peak Regional Airshow as the SR-72 Darkstar performs a flyover during the show. Sources hint at a never-before-seen crew led by none other than Pete Mitchell himself.”

Denver International Airport announces “Screen&Ride”

“We’re all about convenience at DEN and getting to your gate just got a whole lot easier! Introducing DEN Screen&Ride: America’s FIRST driveway to runway service.

“Simply book a ride online and meet our specially-trained drivers in your driveway, where they will screen you and your bags. Hop into our electric vehicle, grab some complimentary snacks and get your camera ready; you’ll be up close and personal with aircraft as you make your way to the gate!

“$99 per person for a shared ride and $199 for an individual ride, which includes guaranteed bag service although individual airline baggage fees do apply”

Now, I get that this is an April Fools’ joke, but is this really a bad idea? Personal screening and a shuttle straight to the jet? That’s a win for travelers if you ask me.

Miami International Airport release alien sightings

Miami International Airport is finally coming clean about some of its guests. Maybe they didn’t have as much of a headache getting an Uber like I did.

“We have declassified security camera images of the incident on New Year’s Day around Miami.”

Corendon Curacao introduces Love Seats

“After the success of the Only Adult zone in our aircraft, we introduce the Corendon love seats! Who gets to sit next to you on our new love seats?”
