Qatar Giving Away Free Tickets To 21,000 Teachers To Celebrate World Teachers’ Day

To celebrate World Teachers’ Day (October 5), Qatar Airways will give 21,000 teachers a free ticket to travel to any of the airline’s 75 destinations it serves.

“On the occasion of World Teachers’ Day, we would like to thank all of the teachers around the world for their hard work and dedication to educating the world’s students. Your commitment to delivering a high standard of education continues to inspire us during these uncertain times.

“To show our gratitude, we are offering complimentary tickets for 21,000 teachers to use this year, or to plan for a well-deserved holiday in 2021.”

Qualifying teachers who sign up and are selected will receive a promo code qualifying them for a free round-trip economy class ticket which can be used to book any flight which Qatar Airways operates globally, along with a 50% discount code on a future trip with the airline. Those who get a code will have their base ticket fare and carrier-imposed charges waived, but will still be required to pay taxes and external service fees (similar to the process of booking rewards tickets with miles).

They also encourage qualifying travelers to join the airline’s Privilege Club miles program with the offer of 2,021 Qmiles on sign up.

The contest runs from October 5 to 7, 2020, and due to limited demand, the airline has chosen to limit tickets distributed per day and will split its daily batches between all 75 countries which it serve (more on that below).

Who can qualify

There are some limitations which should be noted:

  • This initiative is strictly available to School Teachers only. Eligible teacher professions and Job Types are limited to: Classroom Paraprofessional, Teaching Assistant & Substitute, Intervention & Inclusion Specialist, Tutor, Senior Leader, Early Childhood Teacher, Student counsellor, Primary Teacher, Secondary Teacher, Casual Teacher, ESL Teacher, Special Ed Teacher, Teacher Aide, Vocational Education and Training (VET) Instructor, Pre-School & Early Years Practitioner, and Classroom Technician.
  • Eligible participants must reside in a country where Qatar Airways operates direct flights through Doha.

Where to apply

If you want to take a shot at the contest, applications can be made via Qatar’s website link here.

Limited time to qualify

As the content only runs from October 5 to 7, 2020, interested teachers are urged to apply as soon as possible. As mentioned above, tickets will be limited daily, with the clock resetting daily at 1 a.m. UTC (9 p.m. EDT). Even though you would technically have until the end of the 7th to put in an entry, it would be prudent to sign up as soon as cycle rolls over due to expected demand (kinda like Apple phones selling out on a day one product launch).

The code will allow you to book flights from October 20, 2020 to September 30, 2021. Trips should be completed by September 30, 2021.

The additional 50% discount code carries a limited redemption time frame, being valid for bookings until November 1, 2020. Like the above ticket, travel dates will also run from October 20, 2020 to September 30, 2021.

The website spells out the terms and conditions associated with the contest, as well as what proof will be required when applying, so get your documents in order and brew a strong cup of coffee to catch the last batch before it’s gone!
